Fairing+ Luggage question
#1
I realized that in prep for the rally in June... I have to find something to carry my. Crap..err stuff, you know some clothes and cigars..

Since I sold my Ktm 990Adv, I don't have a bike with hard luggage, and my off road bike (Ktm 620 Egs-e, basically a 620 dual low pipe adv) soft bags are too long.. They hang down to the exhaust on the CB ...

I'm starting to remember why I got hard bags... The problem is that the CB, at least to me would look a little funny.. Mine has the metal fenders removed and replaced with black plastic ones. So a rear rack might not work...

So anyway, I picked up this for a good price, a gears navigator bag...

http://www.amazon.com/Gears-Canada-Navig...B0013LH7RE

It looks to be a decent size and will work... However, while the rally isn't too far, if I run into inclement weather.. I thinking I might want a bikini fairing, for nothing else to rain water from pooling on my crotch. I hate that...

So while I like the looks of some of the fairings, I don't know how well it might work with soft luggage... I like the overall cafe look, so I don't want too big, but if a smaller one splits the wind, I'd prefer the buffeting of the split wind not hit the bag/s.

So I was looking for some recommendations. I've been searching this forum for ideas, as well as Google. I like the chic fairings, but wonder how it does with luggage. I'm thinking the dart Marlin might be big enough to divert the rain, but not big enough to divert it to bags...

So I figured I would ask other for their experiences..

Thanks in advance

Jason

Look up Cravens, a British product (now back in production).

Smaller fairings like the Comet and Givi models give limited protection from the elements. A fuller fairing like a Slipstreamer is much better. A car is even better. Big Grin

I went with a Wolfman Dry duffle bag. Attached to my Honda rack, it holds a LOT (medium) while not looking too bad.

I have the quarter fairing with the taller tinted shield on my CB which does give some minor weather protection but as to actual rain protection I just don't think it would help much. So far I've only encountered slight rain on the CB and the fairing was of some assistance, the bottom of my legs and feet suffered the worst.

As to looks of luggage strapped on with the quarter fairing - it looks exactly like that. I figure anybody who looks wishes they could join me. I lash down with straps and a bungee net so flapping in the breeze is reduced significantly. Duffel style generic bags.

I have the Dart Marlin and I really like it for the overall look and I have no buffeting. It isn't the answer for someone that is looking for touring bike type protection but I have had it a year next month and I think it works. It would not do much in a rain storm though. I think there are some pretty significant tail bags that are waterpfoof that you can buy like from Wolfman. Look at Union Garage in Brooklyn as they have waterproof tailbags and side bags. Good luck.

I'll still be rocking my tourmaster select bags and tank bag and cortech tail pack and cut down NS street shield ex, which all comes off and stored in the room once I get to the rally

Is there a preferred luggage setup for riding 2 up? I have the Hepco and Becker journey 42 top case on the at, but wondering if there is anything else I can do for storage while still leaving room for a passenger. Maybe a particular style of soft saddlebags or something?

Always used an old army duffel bag,put everything inside a big plastic trash bag then into the duffel, low budget waterproofing.Works with saddlebags too.More money leftover for gas and beer.
