I don't care much about whether someone waves but today I got a really good one.
Coming home I spotted a black Mako Shark II 'Vette coming my way on one of our more well-known winding roads. It had a Weiand 6-71 blower poking out of the hood with the standard triple-butterfly intake, all flat black, and I thought, "that thing is bad-azz" and just about that moment the driver jammed his fist out the window and gave ME a huge thumbs-up. So of course I waved back.
Some guys just know what's cool.

I always give a wave or a thumbs up to the classic cars guys or any vehicle that I think is cool.

Yep, I always let them know I understand the work involved.
Ever notice how many cagers wave or nod when we're riding the CB?

My wife doesn't understand why I give the

to classic/antique vehicles when we're riding. Not sure myself, but I guess it's just my way of letting them know that they improved the aesthetics of my day.
I also wave at Jeeps, but that's because I own one and sometimes forget that i'm on my motorcycle.

I sometimes catch myself waving at motorcycles... when I'm driving my car. It's not intentional!

Gentlemen,
Whether I'm in a car or on a bike I always give a thumbs up to any car or bike I think is really cool. Brightens my day and usually theirs as well. Cheers.

Cool respects cool, full stop. Waving is reflexive at this point.

As a long-time classic car owner and collector, I always flash a thumbs-up at other people in old cars, and I know danged sure I appreciate when people do it for me!
As for waving at other motorcyclists, that's a given. The reciprocation varies, but that's just the way it goes.

Here in Los Angeles I encounter cool cars & bikes every few minutes on the road.
I stopped waving at cool cars a long time ago. But all bikes get a wave or a nod, simply because riding a bike in LA is a commitment of sorts. It's downright dangerous due to the amount of distracted drivers behind the wheel. I'm not acknowledging the fact they're on a motorcycle, I'm giving them props for being brave!

I got yet another great wave today from a couple of CHP officers on motors. I was zipping down the Newhall Pass, blazing into the car pool lane about 90+ and got settled in when I saw the bright white headlights coming up between cars. I knew it was a couple of motors. I just slowed to about 75 and they steamed on by me, I moved to the far left of the car pool lane. The second guy waved, with the down-low, two-finger style.
These guys like bikes. As long as you are in control and don't have an ear-splitting pipe, they have better things to do than harass you.
