How We Manage the Forum
#11

Good morning, Whoops, and All Other Members of the Forum,

You have given good counsel and given all that has taken place, I believe it is reasonable to be both concerned about how this Forum is being managed and to want assurance that we will not end up with a similiar problem. Here are few nerd details behind the scenes:

Admin Privilidges: Cormanus and I share Admin responsibility for this Forum. We both have credentials to the Hosting Provider (a2hosting.com) and the MyBB Platform we are using now. a2hosting.com is one of the best hosting providers in the United States. They have true technical support based in the United States and will accept a help desk request to resolve hosting issues.

Platform: We are running on the latest, most secure, and best MyBB release.

Custom Code: I have paid to have custom code created for this site. It is checked into a Code Vaults which I used to support my business.

MyBB Maintenance: I started out knowing nothing, but have advanced to a better than average MyBB Administrator. I hope to reach Power Admin Status at year’s end. Here is how I am managing the back end while Cormanus considers features and the future of the site:

Basic Tasks annd Cleanup occurs daily. Most of it has been scripted to run and produce a report that I audit daily:

I track activity on the Forum to make sure that I can respond to any brute force attack. I take appropriate action by blocking IP addresses when required.

I monitor Moderator, Admin, and System logs to make sure nothing out of the ordinary is taking place:

And I back everything up twice daily and copy those backups to my Data Centers in San Jose and Los Angeles as part of our Distaster Recovery Protocls:

And I optimized the databases daily to make sure we do not have the time outs and locks which causes the legacy Forum to timeout:

I suspect this geek breakfast is much more than you ever wanted to know.  Smile  But I do want the Forum Members to know that I feel the responsibility of both protecting your data and enabling your access to the Forum on demand. I have done all that I know to do to meet those obligations. Have a great week. David

P.S. I document everything each week. The screen shots included in this post are part of the documentation I created previously. If I do not write it down, I forget!
