Helmet camera, who uses one?

Dang, hope I never have to experience anything like that! At least my license plates are very visible. And, I'll have video of anything stupid that might happen to me.

Been very happy with my GoPro 8 so far, and have gotten into a daily routine with it. All of my helmets have mounts that have been properly aimed, so each morning, I just click it on when I suit up. When I start rolling, I just say "GoPro Start Recording", and she starts recording. Get to work, and say "GoPro Stop Recording", and it stops.

The battery will hold enough charge for one round trip commute. When I get to work, I put my helmet on its shelf, and I now have a charging cable clipped to the shelf. Just plug it in and it's ready for the ride home and back again the next day. When I get home, I just clamp it to whichever helmet I will be using the next day.

I dump the footage using the GoPro app every few days, unless there's something interesting that I want to grab a shot of.

I use an old Go Pro 4 Black with a battery eliminator cable which plugs into a low cost power bank. The power bank powers the GoPro for a week or more depending on use. It's a very low cost setup and saves constantly changing GoPro batteries. Negatives are 1)It doesn't get you a rear view and 2)it doesn't know if you've had an accident!

It is sad that camera in loop mode are routinely used for "insurance" purposes should a riding event occur.

Almost seems less time it is used for fun. In any case, harvest what you can from the saddle so when the day eventually comes when all you can do is drool from a rocking chair, at least you can replay your rides. This, of course, assumes someone is around to set-up the video for you. You might be able to say, "Hey Google, play Blue Ridge Parkway Ride 2021", but that tongue ain't workin' like it used to. ( ... and as you continue to drool).

Hope I'm not drooling for a long time. Yes, sad that my main impetus for getting a camera was my accident in February, which was a clear-cut left turn. The offending driver disputed liability, which delayed me being able to get my bike fixed until I was able to get the police report weeks later. If I were able to submit video of her turning in front of me and stopping, it might have sped up the process. Got the idea from my past days as an insurance fraud investigator. Video evidence goes a long way.

I also autocross and do track days with my car, and had GoPros at my last job. It was cool to mount them on my car and go back to watch the footage. I'll mount my new camera to my car next time I go out, and I plan to use it on the road trips to remote places that my wife and I like to take when the world isn't killing itself.
