Very happy to announce that the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles is open again. I had my first shift on Saturday, and was admiring the Italian bike display that was installed right as the museum shut down for the Pandemic.
If you're in the area, come check it out. But buy tickets online first at
http://www.petersen.org, as there is a daily capacity limit. Plenty of free motorcycle parking, and if you pull up next to a CB1100, come say hello.

I saw quite a few of the Peterson cars sold at Barrett Jackson sale in Scottsdale last weekend , did they thin out their collection and/or replace them with new collector cars ?

The Petersen Museum gets many cars and bikes donated regularly, so they can pick-and-choose the ones they want to keep. The sold ones finance the restoration of others.

Not being a member of the museum's curatorial staff, I'm not speaking officially, but the museum can only hold so many cars. Taking a look at the list of hot rods that were recently sold, yeah, I thought they were cool, but when I show hot rods on tours, I talk about the cars that are historically or culturally significant, particularly if they're linked to the local area, like an Ed Roth car. From the standpoint of being a story teller, I won't miss what was sold. Typically, the proceeds are used to purchase a car that is missing in the collection - something that would fill out a particular segment. There are also cars that are brought into the museum for a short period of time for the purpose of being prepared for auction. This past Saturday, we had a Saleen S7 and a McLaren Elva, which will go to auction soon. Nice to be able to show them off, but I know they won't be there for long.
Where motorcycles are represented, we've got some very interesting bikes that are relevant to Southern California, like an early 30s Highway Patrol bike and a VMax camera platform used in several movies.
I've been angling for the permanent acquisition of a Brough Superior SS100. But, I have absolutely no influence over the process.
