Examples of CB1100s with a bare metal tank look?

[url=http://imgur.com/a/HecOp]I saw this post elsewhere. [url=http://imgur.com/a/0BMp7]Here's another album of the SR400 in question.

I especially like the paintwork on the tank, just clear coat and hand-painted logo on the bare metal (...and the girls). I am reminded of Mr. T's[url=http://www.samurider.com/?p=14557] Fugu tank, but I think I could do all the prep-work on my bike and have it clearcoated locally for a lot less money. Has anyone done something similar with their CB?

I like the look too, but I think that you have to know that is the desired finish before you make the tank. Can you guaranty that the bare metal under the paint is pristine and with no brazing or filler? Considering Honda's quality processes, the tank might be good enough to clear after stripping, but what will you do if it is not?

You might be better off getting the tank painted with any of the simulated metal colors now available. Then any imperfections in the metal can be filled prior to paint.

Consider an aluminum vinyl wrap? Cheap, and you can also reverse it if you don't like it. I've seen car interior pieces done in aluminum like this and it always looks good.

I've always loved the look of the Manx tank, on anything.

+1 on the aluminum vinyl wrap. I saw an example at the Philly auto show this year, and was amazed how well it looked.
That would be a much cheaper option, and as stated, easily reversible.

This stuff is even "somewhat" gasoline resistant these days, in that if you get a few drops on the tank during a fill-up (as we all do occasionally....right?), a simple wipe-up and soapy water or even spit should be okay.
