Thanks Warman, interesting mod. My only concern would be whether the brackets mark up the frame tube.

I worried about that also but then the bike isn’t doing me much good if I couldn’t ride it anymore than 45 minutes without wanting to get off of it. Not only that, the sciatic nerve pain was distracting me from paying attention to my riding. Almost like a muscle cramp. It’s no fun getting old.

Some other brands include the rubber lining, however, I reckon they make the clamp less effective when mounted on a frame member that runs horizontal to the road.

If the bracket was mounted vertically on, say a tube-based engine guard, then the tendency for the mount to "rotate" is much less because the weight of your leg/foot is mostly in the direction of gravity.

Anyway, that is my currently working view.

I suspect mounting them directly on a horizontal frame member will bite into the enamel, but in return it is less likely to rotate downward. Of course, issues arise in terms of rust forming under the bracket, and some bozo standing on the footrest and essentially stripping the bracket grip on the enameled frame member.

I see your point but I wonder how much it would matter. Using them as a foot rest should be less stress than a normal foot peg although I suppose a good jolt from a bump could be enough.

I wouldn't know for sure either. I suppose that is why we discuss these things, ask questions and opinions. However, I have seen aftermarket arrangements on other bikes over the many years that didn't quite stand up to the rigor of riding. In terms of these sort of pegs, they almost seem more persistent when mounted on a tubular engine guard. Again, just me speculating.

Not sure how tall you are or if you have bio mechanical issues in play.

For me on longer trips I would end up with a pretty good cramp in my upper outside thigh/hip area once I got back on the bike after fueling/bathroom breaks etc.

I did the simple mod of putting on these foot pegs and that issue went away. I can't overstress what a difference they made even while on the bike. Multiple adjustment options depending on where you want the peg. I have them at the lowest neutral setting (no forward/aft bias).

Got them used from a forum member. Something like $25 (?) for the set. Probably the best mod in terms of comfort (besides the replacement seat) I've made to the bike.

Different color options are available. However, I'm surprised they cost what they do. I'd look around on Amazon and E-bay. Should be able to get them for somewhat less.

I tried those adjustable pegs about a year ago and they didn’t work for me. Not only that, my shoe kept landing on the arm. That bothered me enough to put the old pegs back on.

My custom seat ended up giving me more leg room than the pegs anyway. The only relief I’ve found has been being able to move my foot forward.

So far I’ve been keeping my feet on the highway pegs most of the time. Only using the regular pegs for in town riding which I try to avoid.

My issues I believe are nerve related and I’m having that looked into now. Or as much as my health insurance provider allows. Now that healthcare is “affordable” my deductibles have tripled and it takes longer to get anything done.
