redbirds, the valves in my ST have never been inspected. When I take it in and request it at my local shop, the shop manager talks me out of it lol

Most likely he's never seen one that needed it. None of my "shim adjusting" bikes has ever needed an adjustment. Maybe it's because I tend to ride conservatively, rarely visiting the red line.

The two "push rod" bikes I owned (BMW and Moto Guzzi) needed frequent adjustments with at least two valves or more out of spec every 6000 miles. At least it was an easy DIY. I will be checking the CB soon but I don't expect any valves "out".

When I go in he asks me if I hear anything out of normal, then he asks, are my experiencing any starting issues, then he asks if my gas mileage has gone down, then he says " we can check them, but it's expensive and I don't think we will find any out". ( besides that they are down to 1 new mechanic I don't have any faith in)

My Bonneville has been in spec for 30K ...3 checks.

I'm approaching 8K on the CB...no starting issues, no weird noises, great gas mileage. Not sure what I'm going to do about having it checked.

Glad to learn your ST1300 & you have enjoyed 50K miles of sport-touring!... also... nice to see that your coolant thermostat is not stuck open & producing 3 bars at 52 degrees F!!...keep going in the nice fall colors this month & sharing picks...I had a coughing fit yesterday on a leaf color ride in country when the corn & soybean harvest was in full swing along secondary roads & the harvest dust swept across my county roads paths... you could see the fine harvest particles glistening in the afternoon sunny air!... cough/sneeze/cough...glad the harvesters got a good day for field harvest yesterday... as today the rain will keep them under shed roofs!!... great time of year for riding country roads!
