I was bored a few weekends ago (or maybe I was bored after work...anyway) and shot a couple videos of my V-strom. I wanted to compare my Ricoh WG-4 (more of a digital still camera for outdoor use with HD video capability) to my GoPro Hero4 Black with which I shot the ride video.
I talk...A LOT...I need to get into editing and scripting myself a bit better. So, here it is, all 17 minutes of blah blah blah, V-Strom, blah blah, adventure bike, blah blah farkles.

Buddy of mine is 2nd generation Honda/Suzuki dealer, owned and ridden about every motorcycle made. His bike of choice - for several years now - is the Suzuki Vstrom 650.

Best bike I know of for the price. Hits way above it's weight class.

Yeah, got the "go ahead" for another bike ( to leave at the cabin in VA), toying with Vstrom or KLR, used of course.

If you plan on leaving the bike sitting for extended periods, I'd recommend the V-strom just from the fact that it is fuel injected and not as sensitive to things gumming up from old gas. Obviously, fuel stabilizer is a must on any bike that might sit for more than a few weeks.
The KLR also has a number of flaws you generally need to rend to, such as the infamous "doohickey." Some of the earlier 2nd Gen models had oil consumption issues. I'd say a well-farkled, well-kept 1st gen would be a great buy for around $3k. Newer KLRs aren't much less than what you can buy a used V-strom for.
If you are planning much off-road riding, look at the KLR or a DR650. If you plan to stick to tarmac and dirt roads, the V-strom may be the ticket.

Price will be a major factor. Possessing a strange sense of humor the idea of strapping a milk crate to the back of a KLR appeals to me but in all likelihood it will be a WeeStrom. Buddy is a Suzuki dealer so I'd rather let him find me a used one and pay a little more - I drink his beer.
I spend right at 50% of my time at the cabin, working on making it 100% but meeting reluctance on the domestic end, so a bike won't be ignored.Reason I retired early was to go riding - and I do.
We can't get both of our motorcycles up there and the dogs at the same time so I justified another bike for cabin use. Will be primarily paved roads although the state maintained unpaved roads are fine for driving on with any bike. Wife rides a Spyder so no off roading together.
Toyed with idea of a DR or Honda 650 but then I looked in the mirror, no TAT for me.
