I was managing a Honda/Suzuki shop in '78 when the CBX hit the store I took one for my demo. It was an intimidatingly wide looking beast from the saddle and the cylinders looked really susceptible to damage in a drop without engine guards. It's performance was good and it sounded great but it's complexity scared everyone. We didn't sell a whole lot of them, and even fewer when Honda fitted them with bags and fairing making it into a sport tourer. It wasn't long before Honda was selling them cheap as a left over.

Technical tour de force, as Honda was willing to demonstrate back then, but beyond the desirability of most motorcyclists of the day compared to bikes like the CB900F, GS 1100e, XS 1100, KZ 1000

I would take one for nostalgia's sake, but it's not something I would want for a daily rider.

Always enjoy Ryan’s videos.

Looking at a ‘13 CB1100 next to a CBX side by side in the Gilmore Museum, it’s easy to see where the CB1100 got a lot of its styling cues.
