I own lots of copyrights. Every work of residential architecture I have ever designed. I license people to use them to build buildings. I also license others to creative derivative work from them. Though people pay me to design their home, they don't own the design. They are entitled to use the design one time to construct the building. The use of my work is relatively easy to control, although theft happens and one slips away occasionally. Intellectual property law has been long established and continually updated. That said, I had Guhl reflash my ecu, which at one time was technically illegal. Intellectual property rights laws affect pretty much everything invented, designed and created including software. Enforcing those laws is another story

I'm still a bit shocked that it's not illegal to tamper with the coding since you are in affect tearing up the certificate that the engine was certified under for the EPA. Then there are the insane horse powers let loose on the street; where I don't mind too much that the modifier gets killed (other than the extra work it puts our EMT's and LEO's through that have to clean up the mess and contact relatives) but too many times they punch someone else's ticket too. It may yet come to that but I suspect we'll run out of gas or switch to electricity before that happens.

Reading this article causes me to ponder my existence in this big crazy world and it makes me feel so small.

Of course that feeling quickly fades when I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror.
