gas tank sealant

hey, I might have to get into my tank and take out the fuel pump. I'm not sure, since I don't even have the tank off yet, but I think there is a plate I'll have to remove to get to the pump and I'm guessing I'll need to use a sealant when I put it back. Does anybody out there know what kind of sealant I'll need to use, if any? Maybe it's just a gasket I'll need-- thanks- Jim

Jimbo, there is no plate. Well I guess there is, but the pump is a one piece assembly. I and a number of other members have had it out. Its easy.

If you don't know, the connector for the pump is behind the left side cover. See the other post for torque specs.

When I swapped tanks I replaced the gasket just as a matter of cause even though it looked like I could have reused the original one. Leaking gasoline is not my idea of a good time.

Hey Jimbo,

I've had mine out and in several times on the same gasket and its held up fine.
Just go gentle with it and make sure its clean. Torque up evenly.

Of course the correct thing to do is change it I guess and I may do next time I have it out...
