VIN Oddity

I did search for this issue in this forum before I posted this but didn't find that it had been addressed, if it has been addressed then my bad. The issue is a VIN that ends with EK100553. My understanding is the the last six digits are the bike's serial number. The manufacture is allowed to use that field as they deem fit.

My issue is that the other VINs that I have seen would have this particular VIN listed as '000553' and not as '100553', so it is that 1 after the EK seems to be odd. Does any know if that '1' at the beginning of the VIN has any purpose?

EK100192 - this is my VIN. Does this make my bike odd?

They are different years. The "E" before the "K" indicates year 2014. A "D" is for 2013. After the "K" the zero indicates the first year of the model in the US market, a one indicates second year. This applies only to US Honda models.
