Wisconsin Insurance

Anyone else around here what are you paying? I'm 34, been licensed over 2 years. I currently pay like $240/year for '97 KLR 650. My current insurance co Allstate quoted between the Honda CB1100 ('14), Triumph Bonneville and Scrambler... they quoted like $607/year for full!

I can knock it down to $lower $400's with transfer discount from past insurance company (wasn't applied), no collision in winter, lump-payment discount (10%), ABS drops $50 off but '14 CB1100 doesn't have it...

Those premiums sound really high. Try increasing the deductible and see what that does. Or, if you own the bikes outright, you can self-insure and eliminate comprehensive & collision entirely, which will reduce your premiums dramatically. That's what I do. I pay about $40/year for each of my bikes for liability and uninsured motorist coverage only ($300k/$500k). If I wreck the bike, I simply repair it out of my own pocket, or take it behind the barn and shoot it.

I currently only insure a few bikes in Wisconsin. In the Flatland, Allstate doesn't have great rates for motorcycles in general. The CB1100 seems to cost a bit more to insure than some other similar bikes, but each and every case is a little bit different. I am licensed to sell bike insurance in Wisconsin, so I'd be happy to run numbers for you, Justin. I don't think it's proper for me to sell insurance via this forum, so anything I do for you would be just for information purposes. You might be better off talking to an independent agent in your area who sells Progressive and/or Dairyland. My experience is that those two companies not only have competetive pricing (but remember that each case is unique), but they also handle claims better than insurance carriers who write motorcycle insurance on a "oh, by the way" basis.

Remember age, driving record and experience all have to do with the price. What type of neighborhood and location is another factor. Plus the CB1100 falls into a sport Catagory whether we think so or not. It's not a super sport but is considered a sport bike. No ABS also makes a difference. I pay 450.00 a year for full coverage, 500.00 deductible in Long Island N.Y.

I always find it interesting when Americans complain about the high cost of vehicle insurance Huh

Like many Canadians, I have had to pay around $95 CAD (currently $72 USD) PER MONTH, 12 months per year, regardless of which bike I have had at the time.
It is the main reason I cannot justify owning more than one bike at a time.

Thankfully I am not a young kid with a 600 cc or larger crotch rocket...they would have to pay several thousand per year for the privilege of riding 6 months or less each year...

...but hey, at least I have free health care Wink

Also, you were astute to title your thread "WISCONSIN Insurance". As Gumby and uscgmac have either directly or indirectly pointed out, pricing and coverage requirements will vary from state to state as well as which particular insurance companies might be preferred in each state. Also, uscgmac is correct that insurance companies often rate the CB in their 'sport' category, but that is not as ominous as it may sound since most companies also have a 'supersport' category and often have an additional category above that.
