I think there are a couple of topics getting intermingled here:

The first topic is entirely subjective. Any given rider may or may not feel secure riding on tubes. The second topic is objective. The wheel swap is or is not feasible for various sound technical reasons.
One thing I've wondered: if the mag wheels are heavier, and the 2017 suspension is valved for lower unsprung weight of the spokes...what would be the result?
