Because other bikes don't do everything else the cb does as well as it does it. Why buy another bike when I can have all this greatness and still make improvements to the CB? It's not so much about trying to get to a certain bhp number as it is improving whatever I have. If I had a Busa or a k1600 I'd probably still try to improve the power.

I've dropped almost 40 pounds over the past 6 months. That might make a difference in the CB's acceleration with myself aboard but it certainly doesn't change the way the bike itself feels in terms of handling or rolling around in the garage. Now I'm looking (and feeling) better, but my CB already looked perfect to begin with.

As has been said, performance isn't going to be impacted much by dropping the weight of the bike by 50 lbs. The bike has plenty of performance anyway for most, and for those looking to add horsepower (like Powerdubs) it sounds like it's as much of an intellectual stimulation thing as it is really wanting to make use of the extra horsepower (which in and of itself, is a great reason to do it...) The only place where the CB1100 feels big to me is either pushing it while standing or doing the Fred Flintstone thing. And that's mainly a seat-height / carries its weight high issue, not a weight issue per-se.

My wife almost never says that lol

My wife almost never says that lol I hope not! It'd be weird if she called you "ferret!"

Thanks misterprofessionality. I understand, although it's not a pursuit that particularly interests me. I bought the CB precisely because it is what it is. tommymck puts it well here:

Good luck to those of you working on all this. I confess I'm following along with some interest, although I have little interest in doing it myself. I'd rather be riding.

Ok- please show me where you can buy a bike that looks like mine, does everything as well as it does- riding position, comfort, looks, etc- that makes more hp, especially anywhere near the cost.
These snippet thoughts of just buy a faster bike, when nothing exists that looks the same....

Ha! Here’s the thing, ever since my wife met The ferret (and the lovely Mrs. ferret) a few years back she’ll often ask me “So how’s the ferret doing?”. This usually occurs amongst a mixed group of people. So the legend of “The Ferret Man” here in the Pacific Northwest is growing larger and larger every year.
Now if my wife were to say “how’s Mickey doing?” people wouldn’t think anything of it. But since this continues to happen on a regular basis I’m finding that I’m now becoming tempted to start heavily embellishing my responses. (A small amount of embellishment would be wasted as my honest responses are interesting enough as it is.)
I can picture it now:
“The ferret? Oh, well he just bought a new big bike, much bigger than the red one that I ride. When the ferret decided it was time to see what his fancy new motorcycle was made of he decided to jump a couple of Cincy Metro buses parked end to end. But he took the precaution of placing a 5,000 gallon pool of their local chili before the landing ramp in case he fell short of the his mark. But he made it without problem and the huge crowd enjoyed a massive all-you-can-eat chili party afterwards. Instead of basking in the glow of his adoring fans, he quickly skipped out and returned to his moderation duties. When asked for a comment he simply replied “It was nothing really. Had I been aboard a lightweight bike like my CB1100 DLX I could have easily cleared four buses and 10,000 gallons of chili.”
