Parking Garages: no motorcycle allowed?

Next time, park one bike per space. After all, you paid for them.

Missed this thread when it first came out.

In downtown Phoenix, I know of several private parking garages offer free motorcycle parking. Usually right up in front within sight of the attendant (when there is one).

I don't understand the gate excuse for not allowing motorcycles. The sensitivity on the sensors can easily be set to detect motorcycles. We have one of those gates at work (operated by key card) and it's been properly detecting my bikes for 20 yrs. Oddly enough, when they first installed it I used to ride around it, suspicious that it might send the arm down prematurely. Security didn't like that and assured me that the sensors were properly adjusted. They were right.

I don't have any issue getting through the parking gate here at work, although I've heard of some sport bike riders having issues. My best guess is all the plastic they have on them causing the problem.

For anyone out-of-their mind thinking of visiting Toronto, Ontario, street parking for motorcycles is free. Where (i.e. you can't park on public sidewalks) and for how long rules still apply, but payment is waived by law.

Underground is typically private paid parking not managed by the city, so the perk does not apply.

(still applicable on date of this post)
