Does this qualify as a picture of a CB1100? lol

Taken at John O’Groats, at the northeastern tip of Scotland. It is the furthest point from Land’s End in Cornwall which is considered the southeastern tip of the mainland.

One nearly full day of rain plus one really nasty afternoon. On the other hand, today and yesterday were partly to completely sunny with temps in the 60s f. Providence served up sun for the most technical riding day, Applecross Pass. More to follow.

Good to hear. The problematic weather specifically has kept me away from Scotland. I can ride in the rain safely, but I'll be doggonned If I spend that much money just to ride in the rain.

I’ve probably visited Scotland a couple of dozen times. During all those visits, it may have rained a total of 4-5 days combined. That I remember it was light drizzle. A fair amount of days had partly cloudy skies.

The drive up the coast from Edinburgh to John O’Groats is beautiful. By sheer dumb luck I decided to pull off the road at Badbea Highland Clearances memorial. Hopefully you did as well. Sad chapter in Scottish history.

I’ve always wanted to ride around in the Highlands on a solo 2-week trip using a Vespa. Just thought that would be a really cool experience.

The Scottish people I’ve met are just so endearing with their self-effacing outlook… We were checking into a small hotel an hour or two north of Edinburgh one time and my wife knew I was interested in getting a drink. She looked over across the reception desk to the other side of the room and there was a small pocket pub built into a bay window with seating for maybe 4 at best. No lights were on there. Mrs. Frulk asked if the pub was open for a drink….that I remember it was about 2 PM and we were the only guests around… The man mountain of a Proprietor replied with a Scottish drawl that would make Sean Connery sound like he was a pre-pubescent with a emphatic “MUM, this is Scotland. Our pubs never close!”. Then, literally like an NFL tight end coming off the line of scrimmage he came from behind the desk and flew over to the alcove, put on his smock and said … “what it’ll be now?”…all while pouring himself a dram… I slept well that night.

I am sure the moderators will make an exception because that picture captures a moment in time that is truly Gaelic. It is stunning.

A lifetime ago, I lived in Aberdeen for a few months. The Scots were both amused and forgiving of my Southern United States accent. I still remember the warmth and kindness of the people 30 years later.

I was equally amused by how the entire family, including dogs, could be seen at the Pub together, happy and joyful. Later I observed that on occasion the entire family was placed into service to assist Dad return home after he had a round too many.
