CB1100 coolant.... true story
#21
Before I did my 600 mile service I stopped by my Honda dealer's parts counter to get the oil, filter and chain lube. He asks me twice what bike and year I have as he's staring into his computer, then asks me twice more for the year. He bags all the items and I pay for them. As I'm walking out the front door I check the bag. He gave me the paper insert type oil filter that goes inside the aluminum outer cover you remove from the engine case, like my CBs from the 70's and 80's used. I walk back in and tell him its the wrong oil filter. He consults the computer again, asks me twice more what year, goes and gets another parts guy who takes over the sale, and then I get the correct filter and have to do a return of the first filter and buy the new one.

REALLY shakes your confidence that they can get anything right, including service matters.

There are AIR COOLED BIKES! Who'd have known. Huh

You just know you want this dealer to do your next valve adjustment.

I think this warrants a call back to the guy to ask how much they charge for changing the headlight fluid, too...

I started doing some of the basic maintenance on my CB1100 – oil change, chain, checking fluids, etc. I thought that it would be a good idea to have my local dealer, Fun Bike Center of Lakeland, do the “complicated work”… sparkplugs, tires, etc. So, I called the service department, and asked if they could do the sparkplugs and do a basic check on the bike. I was informed by one of the staff from the service department that it was recommended by Honda that they flush the radiator fluid and replace all of the coolant every 8k miles along with the sparkplugs and oil change. At first I thought he was playing due to the bike being air-cooled. So I asked: so flushing the radiator fluid is standard maintenance on a Honda CB1100? To my surprise he answered: YEEESSS! Very important that you replace that coolant, you don’t want that bike overheating in this Florida weather. So, I asked: is it easy to flush the radiator fluid on an air-cooled Honda CB1100?? And to my surprise the answer was: a little tricky but we will take care of it. I asked: do you realize that we are talking about an air-cooled bike?? And for the great finale I was informed that I was wrong…. Apparently the CB1100 has a radiator…. I am still trying to find it LOL!!

So, I decided to call the parts department and ordered the sparkplugs and the tools to do it myself!

Yeah, so, it wouldn't have ended there with me. I would have asked him to show me the radiator, as I'm having trouble finding it, and would gladly have ridden my bike over to the shop to do so, with the caveat that if they can't find it, I get those parts you ordered for free. I also would have taken video of the entire encounter wherein they attempt to show me where the radiator is.

My guess is he thought you were talking about a CB1000R and didn't want to "correct" you, not realizing the CB1100 is a completely different model. Inexcusable, but understandable.

Should call them and ask for a headlight bulb repair kit. Or ask if they stock ba1100n's?
