Part 3 of 3: Ride back to North Ogden
#1

After stopping at the war memorial I headed out the east end of Tremonton directly towards the base of the Wasatch Mt's coming within about a half mile of them in the town of Deweyville. This picture was taken on the way to Deweyville looking southeast across the prehistoric Lake Bonneville lake bed. At this point around 15,000 years ago the water was approx. 900 feet deep and covered 32,000 square miles. At that time there was an ice dam at the north end of the lake blocking Red Rock Pass in Idaho that finally gave way and at the peak of the flood water flow was somewhere around 33 million cubic feet per second at over 400 foot deep and moving at 70 mph. The peak of the flood lasted for several weeks with the flow gradually diminishing. When it was over the lake level had been lowered by 351 feet (107m) and 1,200 CUBIC miles (5,000Km3) of water had drained.

Here's a 15m video that details the flood from it's beginning as a lake and shows how the waters progressed from Red Rocks Pass, Idaho the Pacific Ocean. After about 3 minutes the photos become colorful and show some great country that you can ride through. Many off the places in here (Shoshone Falls for one I've rode my bike to). In fact, following the flood from beginning to end would be a great road trip.

Once I turned south at Deweyville in a short time you come upon Crystal Hot Springs, a small locally owned resort open to the public. Its pools have lava heated waters, a large waterslide, and is opened year round. They looked like they were doing a booming business on this day. Somebody had a wood fired oven in the parking lot and was making pizza to order there. I could smell it as I passed the lot 70 yards away.

A few miles south out of Deweyville looking southeast somewhat at the ridgeline above Brigham city

This shot shows the north end of Main Street in Brigham City facing south. Two bikes (a Yamaha and Harley) came by me and can be seen in the pic. At this point I've closed the loop and am heading back on the route I came out on that's described in my first two parts posted in this section.

I passed Maddox, a local institution on the way home just south of Brigham City. This place elevates home made food to another level. Almost everything is locally sourced and started out decades ago as a family run fried chicken joint building the business into a much larger enterprise with virtual fans. The raspberry butter and basket of homemade breads and rolls alone has people standing in long lines during the weekends.

The bike ran like a champ, cars were few and far between, and the weather was close to perfect.

Love, Love, Love those roads! I used to ride them often on my yamaha XS650, and I usually bring a bike with me when I visit relatives who still live up that-away.

also, Maddox's rocks!

What everyone else before me said. Thanks, Frulk. It was pretty much the ride reports on this forum that led to my first visit to the US last year. I really enjoy looking at the pictures and reading of members' rides.

Thumbs Up

About a year ago, I stopped for the night unexpectedly in Tremonton with my Goldwing on the way to Boise. There was too much snow coming down up ahead and it was getting dark. The folks at the Hampton Inn were real hospitable, finding me a room and cancelling my reservations in Boise without charge. Thanks for pointing out those alternative routes in the area away from the Interstate. I'll give them a look.
