TPS warning light
#1
The TPS alarm in my car suddenly went off today while traveling down the freeway. My left rear tire was down to 20 psi. I quickly exited the roadway and found a tire shop about a block past the off-ramp. I assumed the tire was punctured but the failure was instead due to a leaking valve stem / TPS sensor. I'd never heard of this. I was more than happy to pay the $25 repair bill and was back on the road within 20 minutes. Sounds like this isn't terribly uncommon, but I attribute it to today's frigid 6 degree F temps.

...in automotive: Tongue
TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
TPMS = Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Glad you fixed it, prolong driving at 20psi will blow up the tire with serious consequences at higher speeds..
Stay safe and a happy New Year..
Thumbs Up

In cold-to-colder seasons I manually check all car and m/c tires every two to four weeks. Not often, however, I do find something.

FYI
The TPMS system came up after the much publisized FORD and Firestone tires issues.

The valve stems on TPMS sensors are notorious for corroding and leaking. If the car has some winter miles on it, the others may be getting ready to leak as well.

FYI, both of you are correct... as to the valve stem, it used to be made off alloy = prone to corrosion, newer version has rubber stem..
