Looking for input, okay current input on magnetic gps/cell phone holders/cases. I searched the forums and saw some really old threads and none really that were magnetic.
I am going on an 11 hour ride coming up next month, escorting the three travelling walls -- The Wall that Heals, The Canadian Vietnam Memorial Wall and the Wall of Remembrance. Doing my part as an American Legion Rider.
I have a battery tender usb port that I plan on using to keep the cell phone charged while I am on the road. I am looking for a case though, preferably a magnetic one that will hold the cell phone well to the tank and allow me to run the power cord between the phone and the battery tender usb port.
Anyone have any? Anyone seen any good ones? Looking for ones that will definitely stay on and not have me worried about it flying off at highway/freeway speeds. I don't have a fairing or windscreen so I get the full effect of the wind.
thanks in advance

dBuster, have you considered getting a handlebar mount? I am one of the villains (see thread on pop-up ads) with a phone from the evil empire that I also use as a GPS on the bike. I have it in a Lifeproof case. Lifeproof also sells an inexpensive handlebar mount the case clicks into. I've a power outlet clamped onto the bars and can charge the phone on the go.
I've seen other options talked about on the forum.
Edit: The beauty of the Lifeproof holder is that clips on and off the bars really easily with a spring clip. Not so the power outlet the clamp for which has to be screwed on.

You might consider a small magnetic tank bag with a clear map case and put your phone in the mapcase, that way you can carry a bottle of water, or whatever too.

Was looking for something with some weather protection for the device. Now our GPS device is weather resistant so that might work.

I have seen those life proof cases, for their purpose they are good. I do not have one of those devices and would never own one, long story not for this forum, but they don't make a life proof case for my device and yes I too use my cell device as a gos when needed but don't rely on it. My main use is for listening to the radio thru Bluetooth headset. I guess I could simply put the phone in my saddlebag if I can't find a weatherproof magnetic bag.

Looks pretty neat. I'd be happier with it on the bar, but that's just me. My LifeProof case is said to be weatherproof. As recommended, I tested it underwater when I bought it and it came up trumps. The only reason I don't work it all from my pocket or a bag is that, on the rare occasions I use the GPS, I want to be able to see it as well as hear it. I'd worry that I wouldn't see it easily in that bag on the tank.

See if I were to use it for GPS it would speak the directions through the Bluetooth headset so looking at the screen is not an issue. Actually I look at viewing a screen even on the handlebars while riding is just as bad as the cagers on their devices instead of paying attention to the road. If I need to look at the screen I can pull over and look at it so screen location is not an issue.
I was hoping someone here may have used a magnetic tank version that could attest to the holding strength of the magnets.
Now if someone could make a HUD display for helmets that would not interfere with watching the road I might consider that.

I put my phone in my tank bag and added a power outlet with a quick disconnect. But I have a Bluetooth intercom so I listen to the directions. I used a map on top of the bag, but with full face helmet I had to look down and take my focus off the road.
