OEM Tool Kit
#1

The tool kit that came with my 2017 CB1100 EX was next to nothing, and did not include all the tools Honda lists for the kit. https://www.hondapartshouse.com/oemparts...ac347/tool Being anal retentive about my machines, and wanting completeness, I ordered all the missing tools shown in the above link at Hondapartshouse.com. The purpose here was a complete OEM kit, as there are far better and different tools for actual roadside repair. I do carry good tools on road trips.

All of the OEM tools pictured in the link will fit in the blue Honda tool kit pouch if they are carefully organized and packed. I got to thinking about how, over time, washing the bike, and being periodically exposed to moisture, every OEM tool kit I ever owned that was stored under the seat eventually started to rust.

My wife has a vacuum sealing machine for storing food in the freezer that has both vacuum/seal, and just seal functions. The bags for the sealer machine are heavy duty, and once sealed are air and water tight. So, I decided to try sealing the tool bag with tools in one of those sealer bags, but without the vacuum function. Worked like a champ, and trimmed off the excess bag with scissors. I found that with a full tool pouch, the OEM rubber band tool bag retainer holds more firmly, and there is no tool rattle. I now have no concerns about rusty tools, or leaving the tool pouch stored under the seat any more. Since I always carry a pocket knife, if I ever really needed any of the tools ( doubtful ), it would be easy to cut the vacuum bag open, and re vacuum bag later. I imagine a vacuum sealer machine could be used for lots of other things that need to be air/water tight carried on a motorcycle.

My tools and paperwork under the seat appear in good state using the default crappy factory fixings. If anything, the surrounding packaging is dusty.
