Yes. Hence my earlier question about whether there was an emissions management problem with all 4-cylinder engines or just air cooled ones.

Here is a Kevin Cameron article about 4 cylinder emission problems: https://www.cycleworld.com/story/blogs/a...emissions/

Interesting point you make m in sc.
In terms of only raw volumetric horsepower and comparing only Honda motorcycles, the PCX150 puts out more power than the CB1100 on a per cc basis. The Africa Twin puts out more power per cc compared to the PCX150. Primary point being: The humble PCX150 153 cc thumper is highly engineered to not only put out some concentrated effort, but does it extremely frugally (over 100 mpg U.S.) and on regular octane fuel and never complaining (i.e. never ping). That is an efficient, yet effective carbon footprint.

As Cameron's article points out more cylinders have more problem and added to that the required looser piston to cylinder fit for air cooled engines (allowing for more extreme temp variance) contributes significantly. It used to be that almost all motorcycles were air cooled, now there are very, very, few and they won't be around much longer. Royal Enfield even has a Himalayan replacement coming that's water cooled. Maybe that's why I've gravitated to air cooled bikes? Of the 7 (too many) I have only two are water cooled. When the topic "what bikes will be collectable" or "what bikes now are under valued" comes up I have to think most any air cooled motorcycle in nice condition.

Thank you, Lord Popgun and colleagues for the information.

I like its general shape, but that plain black lump looks like a budget bike.

The Euro 5 compliant Honda lumps are definitely that: Neutered lookin'. Nothing glamorous I would say to look at.
In return, you'll get decent and better fuel economy, reliability, and a lower velocity of harm to the planet. |
