Oil window wiper
#1
Did my 600 mile service today and was curious as to why Honda felt the need for a wiper in there?
It's the only one I've ever seen on an oil window and I've seen a lot of them working in a motorcycle shop for a couple years.
Also, I had a gallon of oil and left a little in the jug instead of just pouring the whole thing in and the level is perfect. Before the change the level filled the entire window. Now it's right at the top line.

I suppose the window may get gummed up after a while and the level of new oil after a change may be hard to see.

When I did my own first oil and filter change, I found the new oil level hard to see in the garage. Fortunately I had a mat and flashlight handy.

I suspect the wiper is there to deal with extra dirty, sludgy oil. Such as you might find in a bike that hasn't been maintained properly.

Wish I'd had one of those back in the 80s, when I foolishly used a trendy oil with a graphite additive in my KZ. The oil window was immediately coated with black graphite and was never usable again.
