Bonnie/CB1100
#21
I was just sifting through some other forums that were talking about the CB11... and ran across a post on triumph rat. It started to divulge into a Triumph has more soul conversation, but one of the posters had a spectacular point that seems to be reflected in the attitudes here...

They are different bikes and tough to compare, but we should all be happy about the return of the standard bike.

For me, the power/seating position/individuality of the CB won me over... but the Bonne/Thruxton were a close second.

Oh and just for grins... http://www.bikeexif.com/honda-cb900f

I'm really tempted to put a Ducati SS fairing on the CB11.

I love seeing comparisons with the Bonnie!!!!
Such a timeless look...

Remember the old 1990 Honda GB500?
I swear that would have been a success at the time if ONLY is had a 750 cc 4 cylinder.
(1100 is EVEN better).

I still own a ('89) GB500... Wink and the bike was a huge success everywhere but in the US - as usual.

Love the look of the custom CB900F but I'm not liking the modern flat seat trend for cafe bikes, I prefer the classic cafe hump.

But to me if it's not British, it's not a cafe bike...

I loved my Bonneville and say to this day that if I could have two bikes I would have kept the Bonneville and added the CB. I think the new CB is a very special motorcycle and one I feel very proud and privileged to own. That said, the Bonneville will always hold a special place in my heart. I am proud to have owned one. Ride safe and enjoy a set of true classics. Now, if we could only get Kawasaki to bring over the W800.

Not sure if they would after the problems they had selling the W650. Folks here in the states clamored for it when the first spy shots came out in '99 then when the dealers got them here they couldn't sell them.

Great bike, too. I had two of them, both 2001 models; crashed the first one at 7500 miles and then bought another at a deeply discounted price from a dealer who was glad to unload it and ended up putting over 53K on it. Last I heard the fellow I sold that one to had over 80K on it with no problems at all.

Here's the second one:

Have to admit though I actually like the Bonnie better.

I owned a 50th Anniversary Bonneville in Lucifer Orange and it was fun to drive around town. But like the member above said, the lack of power and just OK braking made it a bit boring. I loved the classic style and air cooling though. So then I bought a Ducati 900 Monster which was also air cooled and had great style with tons of power and amazing brakes. But it was uncomfortable to ride around town and wore my wrists out at low speeds with it's sport bike ergo's. My Harley Road King is comfortable, air cooled, and has great style but around town or on short trips it's really heavy, cumbersome, and slow. When I saw pictures of the new CB I loved it's classic looks and air cooling. So I bought one and BINGO!!!, this bike is the ticket!! It has amazing brakes, tons of power, hauls ass, and crisp light handling with a comfortable upright seating/bar position. It's a blast to ride and I think it's beautiful as well. Right On Honda!! Thanks for bringing the CB to America. I love this bike!!!

I am glad to see that a person with this level of experience agrees with me who bought this bike as a "leap of faith." Not being an experienced rider I was not able to test drive it and I bought based solely on my heart. It seemed to work out pretty good this time, because I just think this bike is the one. Friends I have shown it to just can't believe how well it is made and how clean and purposeful every piece on it is.

Hey all, just put a deposit down on a CB1100 today. I won't pick it up for another two days, but I can't wait to put some miles on her. My very first bike was a 2012 Triumph Bonneville and I plan to keep her forever. I've cafe'd it a little and it's been a great bike. It's got loads of character and is a ton of fun to ride.

So far I have only ridden the CB on a short test ride (about 5 miles), so it will take some time before I can give a thorough review. But so far, it's incredibly smooth. Almost electric smooth. The brakes had great bite and feel. Not as grabby or strong as the brembos on my Speed Triple, but very progressive. I love the riding position and plan on using it for pillion with the wife, commuting, and general touring. I think it will excel in these aspects and provide plenty of fun doing it. To sum up the test ride, it was very relaxing and serene. Motorcycling in it's purist form, you forget about all the troubles of the day and just enjoy the elements and surroundings.
