Your right Mickey, I have been a premium member of the http://www.1000rr.net forum since 9-2011 and there are oil burning issues with some model years. The 2008-2009 model years had ring issues and some bikes would burn as much as 1 qt per 500 MI. This issue was corrected in the 2010 model (which i owned). I had no idea until I joined the forum which is usually the case.
I can see a high performance motor with these issued being lugged around for 5000 MI than being beaten on for a few days and come back burning oil.
I broke my 1000RR hard and never added a drop between oil changes. Funny, The 1000RR was much harder to redline on the street, it was just to hard to keep the front wheel on the ground on normal roadways.
I broke my CB in much harder LOL and never burned a drop of oil between changes. Heat is the biggest issue during break-in, run it hard and than let it cycle down and cool and you won't have any issues.
