Used to do a lot of dirt bike riding at Rampart Range in the foothills outside Denver. In the evening the deer come out to feed and are so used to the bikes up there they dont flinch when you ride by. Never came close to hitting one but took it very slow around any blind corners or where there lots of trees near the trails.

Just thinking out loud here:
To my memory I have never had any close close calls in my 13+ years of driving an automobile with striking birds on the road. Could be wrong, but I think I would remember such a thing. In my street motorcycling career which isnt even 1 year old yet, I have had many close calls with birds. Could it be that they are less aware/cautious of motorcycles in general? Could have to do with the relative small size of a motorcyclist compared to an automobile, or the fact that they are less frequently seen than automobiles on the road.
Maybe they dont see us until it's too late, just like most drivers........
Am I comparing the attentional capacity of most drivers to birds......? Perhaps labeling automobile drivers as bird-brained...?
Yes, yes I am. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hiram, I'm glad to know that not only did you survive this incident, but also that the impact on you and your bike was small enough that you were able to quickly relate the story to the rest of us. I'm sorry for the damage to your CB, but it can be fixed should you choose to do so. More importantly, you're doing okay.
I had an incident with a turkey vulture while driving a car back when I was living in West Texas. I was driving from San Angelo up to Lubbock when this happened. I honked my car horn as soon as I was able to identify what was on the road ahead of me and I had started to slow, but the bird flew right towards my car. I couldn't avoid it without driving completely off of the road. Damage to the car was minimal (I think it clipped the front bumper and the car I was driving still had a heavy duty metal bumper up front). I was none too thrilled about the encounter.
