Vanson jacket.
#1
I just bought (eBay) a Vanson sportrider jacket on eBay. I can’t believe the weight and quality of this jacket. I had almost the same jacket many years ago in textile but the leather in this jacket is amazing. I plan on adding the streamlined vest for chilly days. The jacket has double leather in the elbows and shoulders but no CE armor. Vanson has several armor options so I have some questions.

Would you go with the hard armor or street armor which is more flexible and rated CE1? Clearly street doesn’t protect as well but it would be much more comfortable.

Would you get Vanson armor or buy from another company? I thought that the Vanson jackets had Velcro in them to accept armor but that appears to be true for the back only. So regardless where I get the armor I will need to fashion some pockets to secure the armor.

Let me know your thoughts. So far, love the jacket.

Foxcroft, I have a Vanson jacket that I also purchased on ebay a little over a year ago and I agree these are great jackets. Mine is a sportrider type jacket too, I can't remember which model but it is perforated leather, it also has double leather in the elbows and shoulders, so it is probably similar to yours. Mine came with shoulder and elbow street armor but no back armor, it has a zipper in the liner at the bottom of the jacket that allows access to the armor. As far as I can tell there are no pockets for the armor just velcro to hold it in position. You just unzip it and place the armor in the best position for you. Some Vanson jackets come with armor, some don't but have the ability to add it, and some just have the double leather. I hope this makes sense and will help you out. As for the type of armor to use, I only have experience with street armor so I cant really help you with that.

There is a little boutique store in Burlington called "Corsa Motocicletta." They have vanson jackets. I was so impressed with the Vanson A. It is heirloom quality. If you buy it and work it in, your grandsons son will be wearing it someday. If I ever get back to 200 Lbs I'm rewarding myself with a Vanson A or a Schott 141 Horsehide, still haven't decided, both similar in cost and quality.
