Unintended Craig's List Score!

I wasn't shopping for a new jacket, but this just worked out. I have saved tabs on my Craig's List searches for things I want to peruse regularly. Some are for work, like shipping pallets in the "free" section, and parts under the names "Bonneville" and "CB1100", just in case anything interesting comes up.

I took yesterday off to take Mom in Law to the doctor. Since I knew I'd have quite a bit of down time while I was waiting, I searched my normal tabs in the San Diego area I'd be waiting in. This waxed cotton jacket came up, since the model is called a Bonneville, and the owner listed it under this name. My size, and just a few blocks from where I was going to be.

I've always sort of wanted a classic-looking waxed cotton jacket, something different to break up the standard hi-viz commuting fare. This one was a steal - brand new with the tags. The owner said someone gave it to him as a gift to celebrate the purchase of his new Harley. But, since his new Harley is a Pan American, he didn't think the style was a good fit, plus, with temps in the 90s, a heavy waxed cotton isn't going to be too comfortable.

When he said Pan American, I got pretty excited. He was on a waiting list, and just took delivery. But, anticipating my "Can I go see it?!", he said that unfortunately, it was in the shop.

I have a Barbour cotton-waxed coat made for Triumph.

It is a good fall, winter and early spring jacket.

Sometimes one just gets lucky! I think it's a good match for the CB style wise, I've never dared to get a waxed cotton jacket although I seen a few I liked. There is always a feeling that our superfine dust (that's always in the air!) would stick to the wax and be impossible to clean.

That’s an interesting thought, Tod. I had thought about that too, but once I felt this one and a few other waxed cotton jackets, I got the feeling that it’s not sticky, or that things would easily stain it. I guess we’ll find out.

It won’t be soon, though. Way too hot to wear for a few months at least.

I have one...and they aren't sticky at all. Just think of it as a super durable and waterproof cotton. They're wonderful jackets really, looks. comfort and practicality. Great find!

I just waxed my Triumph-branded Barbour International back in the spring.

There could be an issue in hot climate in regards of the jacket "trapping" dirt as the wax heats up. Not sure. I don't wear it in the summer.

Nevertheless, during cooler (and in my case cold) usage, water repels off, they look kinda 1960s British cool, and probably most importantly: They are light, even with the riding armor installed.

That said, the con I find is the fabric is vulnerable. So don't plan to spill while riding.

That's it, it's about repelling water, which happens so seldom that I wouldn't bother.

As for wax - I've actually stopped waxing my leathers for that reason, I actually use a product for leather car upholstery which is more liquid and wipes off completely. It's really difficult to explain how much dust there is here and how fine it is
