Since we're talking about childhood, here's where I remember the smell from... Among my Mom and Step-Dad, he was the chef in the family and always made sensible dinners. But, when she was away for the evening for whatever reason, he and I made our traditional "Guys-Only" dinner. Boil some hot dogs, cut them up, then dump a box of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese into the remaining hot dog water.
And, taking me back to my childhood, whenever I make a meal like that these days, Mrs. Gone says that I'm "Making the food choices of a ten-year-old." Fair enough.

Yes, don't want to be accused of eating like a 10-year-old.

That is very familiar - a sort of universal [North American] childhood food experience.

If Mrs. Gone hadn't beaten semi-healthy eating into my head, it would be an adult food experience for me as well.

Semi-healthy eating sounds quite fair.
Anything to elongate riding years (with no help from a black hole) on the CB1100.
" ... what dear?"
"You are still looking at me funny."
"It is a potato stick."
"I am not lying, look! ... see the potato skin is still attached on one side."
" ... yeah, it is hot - mostly inside, ... yeah."
"Tastes fantastic, ... dear."
" ... ya, ya, ... my insurance policy is still up-to-date."
