L.A. Hipsters, Rejoice!

I have no problem with Hipsters or with what they choose to pay for a cup of coffee. I think it's a false assumption that the riders that go to these sorts of places are there only to show off or that they rarely ride or, for that matter, that either of those things are inherently bad.

I like that places like The Bike Shed exist. We have several bike nights and other events in Chicago that cater to this segment of the motorcycle community. I attend infrequently. I like both the venues and the vibe of these events. I don't enjoy the heavy traffic I have to endure to get to the inner-city destinations.

I agree, although we don't have anything like that here. Of course as you know I am not in a city. The closest thing we have is Quaker Steak & Lube Bike night and nobody shows up after the first one of the year but the life saving pipes biker crowd.

There used to be a Euro version bike night (Ducati's, Moto Guzzi's and KTM's) a few miles away at a cafe, but it died out on it's own after the first year.

The two crowds don't seem to mix well.

There are no ADV, Hipster, Scooter, Sport bike or UJM nights/events that I am aware of near here.

Bob, I do all I "can" to keep Sierra Nevada in business , they will survive but many smaller breweries will no store sales are not going to make it.
Asheville relies on tourism and about 10.000 people in this area lost their job. It will come back but might take some time .

I was thinking about that the other day. It seems as if there isn't much middle class in Asheville. There are doctors, lawyers, Indian chiefs and retirees and then there are the service industry folks. That's probably not really true, but it seems so from the outside looking in. And it seems as if it's always been that way, at least since the Biltmore came to town. The depression of the 30s didn't really end until the 70s for Asheville. I do hope this time it isn't so devastating.

Hey Frulk, speaking of biker hangouts, have you ever been to Legends in Springville? They came out to our Born Free event here in Orange County a few years ago, showing off an old Crocker. It sounds like a really cool place, and I’d like to get up there someday.

I call myself lucky in that I love hanging out with riders to talk bikes and check out what other people ride, and I have plenty of opportunities near me. I’m close to a place called Cook’s Corner here in OC, there are multiple Cycle Gear stores that host bike nights, and we have a good number of annual shows like Born Free, and the DGR. The big, original Cars and Coffee is not too far and attracts plenty of bikes. The L.A. scene is trendy, but there are also plenty of places where “real” riders show up with bikes that aren’t ragged cafe bikes or bar hoppers, or snobby Panigales and Paul Smarts.

Sorta lonely now, of course, but we’ll get back to normal someday.
