Evel Knievel
#1
This from the “Did you know” on a email newsletter I received this morning:

Quote:Famed daredevil and stuntman Evel Knievel experienced broken bones an estimated 433 times over the course of his career.
There are 206 bones in the human body. So he broke all of them twice and then some.

Yeah, that is extreme.

Even if you repaint that stat and say the skull is the affected bone. Then in that context EK busted his head about 433 times.

(I know, crazy speak)

Speaking of '70s daredevils, I recently watched a period documentary about Canadian stunt driver Ken Carter. The man was nothing else if not persistent and sincere in his efforts to perform the greatest stunt of all time.

Edit: I may have already posted about this...what can I say, getting older and tend to repeat myself!

True Evil Knievel story

My buddy Stocky and I went for a car ride with Evil Knievel in April 1973, after his jump at Cincinnati Gardens in Cincinnati

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1kbL6m5IEs

We both worked for the Yamaha dealer that had a display of bikes at the Gardens. After the event, we were sent down to pick up the bikes. Evil had a semi truck in there with 2 cars in it, a gold one and a silver one. He said he needed gas in the gold one and asked if we would like to ride along. Heck yea! I jumped in the front and Stocky got in the back. He got gas at the station behind the gardens. Being ever the showman when he went to pay for the gas he popped open the glove compartment right in front of me and pulled out a stack of credit cars an inch and a half thick and asked the gas station guy if he took any of them, then said never mind, popped the cards back into the glove box, and pulled out a roll of bills about 2" thick and paid cash. Then we went for a cruise. He was really a nice guy.

That's pretty cool, ferret! Flashy, pure Vegas style.

Somebody's making [url=https://intheclutch.com/products/evel-knievel-cincinnati-gardens-1973]T-shirts for the Cincinnati Gardens event.

I heard him speak at the Del Mar Mile in probably 1997 or so. He was a physically broken man at that point and couldn’t walk without a cane but he was very entertaining nonetheless,
