Road Comet 1 info - Papa Weeley_imp - 01-27-2015 I recently bought the Comet fairing Huladog was selling, that came with a clear standard windscreen, and also the optional taller tinted "touring" screen. It was pretty obvious, even unassembled, that the touring screen was much cooler looking, so that's how I put it together and mounted it on the bike. Yes, the "cool" factor was there, and I loved the look, but I found I was getting a lot of wind and turbulence right at about face level, and a fair amount of wind roar along with it. Regardless, I rode it like that for a few rides since it looked pretty sharp. Well, some common sense finally kicked in, and I swapped out the touring screen for the shorter standard version. HUGE improvement. Much calmer air at speed, finally resulting in more "clean" air hitting me about mid to high chest area over 70 mph, and WAY less noise all around. I'm even getting used to - and liking - the look. Just FYI, I'm about 6', so your results may vary due to height, position on the bike, etc., but I thought I'd share this for anyone who was considering ponying up for the optional windscreen, thinking it would be an improvement at speed... RE: Road Comet 1 info - the Ferret - 01-27-2015 Papa..please take a ruler and stick it perpendicular to the ignition and tell us how high the top of the windshield is over the ignition. RE: Road Comet 1 info - Papa Weeley_imp - 01-27-2015 Your wish is my command, sir - exactly 9".
RE: Road Comet 1 info - AndyHe_imp - 01-27-2015 I'm 6'2 and have a RC 1 and was wondering about the touring screen. Interesting to hear that the standard screen does better. I still need to figure out how to support it so it doesn't bounce around at high speed... I tried some small foam blocks between the instruments and the fairing but it pushes the fairing forward which makes light bleed in at night. Yeah, I was one of the last that got the old model 1 with the smaller lip around the light. RE: Road Comet 1 info - Papa Weeley_imp - 01-27-2015 Funny, that's one thing I forgot to mention - the touring screen bounced around at speed like it was on springs, but the standard screen is darned near rock solid. Is your Comet one of the early models? ~ The Bee RE: Road Comet 1 info - Papa Weeley_imp - 01-28-2015 Couldn't tell you - as I mentioned, I bought it used from a fellow forum member. Here's what it looks like, if you can tell from looking at it? RE: Road Comet 1 info - AndyHe_imp - 02-08-2015 I noticed at freeway speeds that the road comet bounces around a lot. I stopped by a hobby store yesterday and picked up some black rubber erasers (pencil drawing erasers) and glued those on the inside of the fairing between the fiberglass and the speedo & tach... this works great in stabilizing the fairing. Much better now. -Andy RE: Road Comet 1 info - NightRider_imp - 02-09-2015 "I know that's right". |
