Ceramic black coating stock exhaust vs. buying aftermarket pipes? - Rebel73_imp - 02-19-2015 Guys, I already have a vision for my soon to be picked up 2014 DLX. I love the blacked out look so I was looking at some black exhaust systems online. Holy moly! $1400! I was reading somewhere about ceramic coating and there is this company in FL which will do it relatively cheap and guarantees their work for 3 years and has a pretty quick turnaround time. Was thinking about doing the fenders as well. http://performancekote.com/coatings.html Thoughts? RE: Ceramic black coating stock exhaust vs. buying aftermarket pipes? - Gumby 1100_imp - 02-19-2015 I'm fairly certain that they would have to strip the chrome off first or the ceramic coating would not adhere properly. The performancekote product sticks best to bare metal. If that is the case, you are looking at a pricey proposition if they acid strip the chrome...less money possibly if they simply roughen up the chrome, but then they wouldn't guaranty adhesion. There are plenty of 4-into-One complete exhausts with black coating available for less than $800 (i.e. Yoshimura). Part of the appeal of the DLX is ALL the Chrome. If you like black, it may make more sense to get the partially blacked-out Standard for which several affordable, black, 4-into-One exhausts already exist. RE: Ceramic black coating stock exhaust vs. buying aftermarket pipes? - Rebel73_imp - 02-19-2015 Thanks, Gumby, but I already put a deposit on a '14 DLX. The 6th gear + ABS was too hard for me to pass up. The cosmetic stuff was secondary to me. Otherwise I would've gone with '13 black STD. I don't hate the chrome look, it's nice. I just like the black a little more. I'll just have to look at the online options. Thank for your input. RE: Ceramic black coating stock exhaust vs. buying aftermarket pipes? - AllenM_imp - 02-19-2015 I just had my stock fenders, grab rails and foot peg mounting brackets powder coated satin black last week. I also had the side covers and fairing painted satin black. I'm considering the yoshi black exhaust too.
