Stock SAE Outlet - Scudrunr_imp - 03-17-2015 Folks, I am surprised that I have not heard anything about the stock power outlet (at least on my bike). I suppose this is an SAE outlet for battery tending purposes? Is there any reason it can't be used for a heated jacket liner? Speaking of which, what liners are ya'll running? RE: Stock SAE Outlet - the Ferret - 03-17-2015 Nope, that can be used for running heated gloves or a jacket liner. I use a warm n safe/ first gear. Can also be used for running a GPS, although not at the same time. RE: Stock SAE Outlet - JPX_imp - 03-17-2015 I was surprised to see that on my new bike too. I plan to use it with my battery tender but I also bought a SAE to USB converter to power my phone/gps. I'm not sure what current of the wire to it is rated for though. RE: Stock SAE Outlet - the Ferret - 03-17-2015 I would also run my mini air compressor thru it, but I upped the fuse voltage for it. BTW that does not come stock on the Honda, someone installed it. RE: Stock SAE Outlet - Scudrunr_imp - 03-17-2015 I bought it new
RE: Stock SAE Outlet - the Ferret - 03-17-2015 Some dealers particularly in cold climates install them for their customers while installing the battery, Trust me it is not OEM. You are lucky. RE: Stock SAE Outlet - Lord Popgun - 03-17-2015 Scudrunr, One or 2 other members said their dealer installed that connector as a goodie on all the bikes they sell. Well, maybe not Goldwings, etc. RE: Stock SAE Outlet - Rocky_imp - 03-17-2015 When my dealer fitted the battery they also fitted the pigtail for the Optimate battery charger. That's so handy that I left the battery in the bike for the winter and hook up the Optimate once a month for a couple of days. I work at a dealership in the PNW. It's not freezing here, 60 degrees today, but we "always" put battery tender cables (SAE plugs) on our new units when we PDI the bikes. When the PDI is performed (Pre-Delivery inspection) we are attaching the battery for the first time. It is a simple procedure to place the cable on the battery at this time. Some batteries are harder to get to than others, and some customers are not the least bit mechanical, so it works for everybody to do it then. It's direct-wired to the battery so be careful what you attach to it! |
