Racks - Seats - EX and Standard - Landy100_imp - 05-24-2015

I need some advice - I used to have a 2012 CB1100 and had the Honda rack that fitted - no problem. I sold it and got a 2015 CB1100 EX with spokes and new seat. I was told the old Honda rack would fit - it doesn't. Then got another rack from Honda accessory catalogue it - black with hand grips and comes with a 37 litre top box. That does not fit!

I then got to look at the fitting guide for the Honda CB1100 EX rack in chrome - and see that you need to fit another "garnich" i.e. bracket that is provided plus a million spacers etc.

Then i had a good look at my bike and the new EX seat has a deeper valance which means the hand grips and indicators have to drop an inch or so.

It seems if I got the old type seat I could use my old Honda rack if I removed the bracket that drops to hand grips to allow the new EX seat to fit.

This is a bit long winded but has anybody else had a look in this area? I am just about to order a new Honda chrome rack (at huge expense) for the EX.

Appreciate any advice!!!

Regards Landy

Interesting. I wonder if this is true with the 2014 EX also. Japan.webbike sells a rack now with a 50L top box for 210 but it says it's designed for the 2014 EX

I didn't think there were any 2015 EX models except for the Japanese ones. If it really is a UK '15 model that would be news to us! What is the 10th digit of your VIN?

I didn't think there were any 2012 models in the UK either.

Not sure this helps at all, but when I bought my rack from Japan it came with 2 sets of spacers. One for 2014 Standard and one for 2014 EX. The spacers intended for the EX worked fine on my DLX. Here's the thread http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5049&page=2&highlight=black+rack post #13 has a picture.

I'm going thru a sort of similar situation. Trying to source/order a rack for my 2014A (Canadian).
I recommend speaking to Mr. T as well.
I spoke to him thru email, but- it appears he is out of stock until early July (at least for my model year (2014)- it may be different for another model year however?
So next, I went to my local Honda dealer and they can get them for about the same price in 2 days (for me that's a good deal as there is no freight, duty, brokerage, or exchange)...its complicated doing business in Canada Wink
In any case -I ordered one and it should be here today or tomorrow.
You might want to try your local Honda shop?
I was rather shocked their price was close to Mr T's?
Maybe it was a mistake-which is good for me.. LOL

It may be too late for you, but this may help others:

The Canadian CB1100A has the same frame and more steeply angled grab rails as found on the 2013/2014 Standard. It's like the red tanked bike on the banner picture at the top of this forum where you can clearly see the greater angle on the grab rails compared to the white tanked 2014 DLX.

2013 Honda Rack P/N: 08L70-MGC-A20 (Also Fits Canadian 2014 CB1100A and 2014 U.S. Standard)
2014 Honda Rack P/N: 08L70-MGC-N40

I mounted the 2013 Honda Rack on mine...fits fine and follows the lines of the bike. The 2014 DLX Honda Rack might have fit, but would be tilted upward at the back (Note: Apparently some have mounted the 2014 rack on earlier bikes, but I don't think the extreme angle looks good or functions as well as a rack that is more level).

Thanks for that tip-I hope I don't end up with an angled rack? I'm picky on looks (as I'm sure every CB11 owner is) and if it doesn't follow the right lines (as you point out) I wont be happy.
I really appreciate your information on this...thanks !!

RE: Racks - Seats - EX and Standard - Landy100_imp - 05-26-2015

Hi, the 10th digit is E.

The main source of this aggro is the EX seat has a deeper valance compared to the standard. This then requires the "garnish" i.e. bracket to drop the indicators and leads to the whole new requirements for different rack. My options are find a non EX seat and maybe fit the original rack, or go EX and try a Hepco rack (but seems they don't always fit) or the Rautken rack but not sure who sells this (Mr T??). The Rautken rack looks perfect. The Honda EX rack looks to be a bit massive and heavy I imagine.

Who is best to get this from based on it being sent to England?
