Bolt Covers? - White Dog_imp - 12-18-2015 Installed my SW Motech engine bars. They came with plastic bolt covers that press on the exposed bolt heads making for a neat scene. I've looked all over the web for matching bolt covers for the original engine mount bolts (14mm) but don't need to buy 1000 of them--just need 4. Anyone know where any are available? I think they would look nice. Have to be the black acorn hex covers. RE: Bolt Covers? - Arctic cb1100_imp - 12-18-2015 I know there all different but my local ace hardware had a pretty impressive selection of bolt and nut cover for every kind of faster head and size! Some have patterns and designs some plain and they have some in polished stainless, some chrome and even black chrome. Might be worth taking a look if you have one close by RE: Bolt Covers? - White Dog_imp - 12-19-2015 (12-18-2015, 02:56 PM)Arctic cb1100_imp Wrote: I know there all different but my local ace hardware had a pretty impressive selection of bolt and nut cover for every kind of faster head and size! "Been there, done that" My store had some large plastic covers with metal push on rings. Guy removed the ring and the cover would fit he 14mm hex head bolt head, but the cover was flat, not acorn-shaped like the ones I got with the Motechs. RE: Bolt Covers? - Bob Sdaman_imp - 12-19-2015 You might have the best luck just to contact SW Motech and either buy some from them, or find out where they get them. The problem is the shipping from Europe is quite expensive and would greatly exceed the value of the covers. SW Motech furnished caps for the replacement motor mount (larger head than the OEM 14mm) and for the clamps which I believe were 9 or 10mm nuts. The 14mm caps are available in the US. Minimum order quantity so far has been 1,000. I just need 4. RE: Bolt Covers? - Jim21680_imp - 12-19-2015 I'm finding stuff available in smaller quantities, but everything seems to be chrome. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/kool-kovers-chrome-nut-and-bolt-head-cover-individual-kits-metric/part/KK-150XX Isn't there some sort of plastic paint out there? I've seen people paint their car rims with this stuff, and it can be peeled it off later. "Plasti-Dip" or something along those lines. Hopefully this is something that could be applied with a Q-tip or small paint brush. When I put the SW bars on my bike, I remember having to paint the washers and newly-exposed mounting surfaces black. (That area stood out like a sore thumb on the black engine). RE: Bolt Covers? - White Dog_imp - 12-19-2015 Thanks Jim, you have given some good ideas. I thought about painting the large washers on the engine mount and I did paint the heads of the factory bolt heads on the down tubes but that was a fix for the rounding of the head bolts due to a faulty socket. The chrome covers might be more attainable than black plastic. Seems as if I saw some of the chrome ones in my search yesterday. The chrome ones shown in your link above are not the hex base acorn style like what SW Motech sent. Hey, the bike came with "bare" bolt heads. I guess I can live with that! There is a strong possibility the original engine mount bolt can still be used and it would match the other 2 bolt heads. (Washer still needs painting, however.)
