Vintage Saddlebag Project - Mounting tips please? - specialist8 - 05-15-2016

Came upon these hardbags my dad had in his garage over the weekend. I can't get a name on the manufacturer that makes them other than the built in turn signals which are Grote. I've included some pictures to show the mounting points.

I'm opening this thread to ask for some suggestions as to what to do to get the right mounting hardware. I have the stock exhaust on my '13 STD so I know that creates some issues with not getting too close to exhaust. The hardbag is 13" at it's tallest and 22" long, and about 9" wide. I'd have to get rid of my turn signals to mount, but they come with built in signals on the bottom back that would hopefully work. Not looking to do serious mods on these bags if that's what's needed, but if there's some quick fix to get these going aside from the imminent electricals I'd like to hear some opinions.

Me holding the bag in place for reference. Too close to exhaust, but I think they could be mounted higher despite this pic:

I would look at the way the asahi police panniers are mounted. Those are very similar in size and appearance.

If my recollections are correct those are old Wixom saddlebags.

I have a set of the Asahi saddle bags on my bike. I'd be happy to provide dimensions / pics if that helps? the saddle bags you have now look quite similar to mine actually?

I can't be of much help with the question of how to mount these, but I will be following this thread so I can see exactly how you do this (mainly so I gauge my following distance on our ride down to the Rally. LOL)

I think Ferret is right. A lot of Wixom stuff comes up with a Google search. Here is one that shows the mounts like shown above. https://sites.google.com/site/1971bmwr755restoration/home-1/wixom

Wixom huh? Ok, thanks for that head start guys.

JRNS: That would be awesome if you could give me more pics/dimensions of what you did with your bags. The Asahi's you put on the bike looked really good.

Matt: I'm going to try my darndest to not give you a reason to think I'm cursed. You'll see!

I'm not too worried, my friend. We're going to have a great time. Smile
