Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - ajacobspilot_imp - 04-10-2017 Had a few minutes tonight so I decided to start mockup of the fairing. Still have a bit of trimming to do, but ten minutes with a dremel cut off wheel has me very close. I'll probably have to trim a bit around turn signals to allow for movement and I'm going to remove a bit off the bottom for horn clearance. I like the way it's looking. It is exactly the look I was after. I'm still thinking I'll keep the bike stock colors and just have fairing painted to match and carry the tank stripes onto the fairing and side covers. Still need to talk to the painter about it...who knows maybe he'll talk me into something totally different. RE: Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - Cormanus - 04-10-2017 Looks good, AJ. RE: Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - crutch_imp - 04-10-2017 Looks really sharp. Nice work. crutch RE: Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - ajacobspilot_imp - 04-11-2017 Been contacting various painters and the prices are a bit more than I'm willing to spend. I may just do the paint myself. Does anyone know of a source for the maroon and grey stripe paint on the tank? I checked Color Rite and they have the black, but don't list anything for the stripe colors. I have emailed Color Rite to see if they carry the colors. Hopefully they'll respond. TIA RE: Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - Lord Popgun - 04-11-2017 Just so you are clear, the stripes on the tank are not paint. They are decals. Here is a link so you can see I'm not making it up http://www.hondapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/hon/52f28c18f870021404ec5a56/mark
RE: Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - Retsel_imp - 04-11-2017 Interesting! I was contemplating painting matching stripes on fenders or side covers. These decals my be adaptable. Thanks for the info Popgun! RE: Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - ajacobspilot_imp - 04-11-2017 Wow. Thanks. I hadn't looked that close, but 'assumed' it was paint. Decals make more sense I guess. Now just have to see if I can justify $46 for a couple decals on a fairing. The shape of the fairing definitely lends itself to using the tank decals though. RE: Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - Frulk_imp - 04-11-2017 Putting those OEM stripes on the fairing will really tie the Bike together. Frulk Lebowski sends. RE: Lockhart Phillip Fairing Install - ajacobspilot_imp - 04-12-2017 Finally found some time last night to finish the fairing. Had to remove quite a bit of plastic to get it to fit, but I like the look. I took a length of fuel tubing, sliced it and put it around the headlight opening to make for a better fit. Also, the throttle cables rub against the top of fairing so I used a small length there to prevent chafing. The u-shaped mounting bracket opening for the headlight bolt wasn't quite wide enough to handle the shoulder bolt the headlight uses. I didn't have an easy way to mill the opening so I just ran up to Lowes and purchased a couple SS bolts without shoulders. |
