Road Comet Yea or Nay - glenncal1_imp - 04-26-2018

I really like the looks of the Road Comet I, but I am concerned by the possibility of wind noise. I immedeatly removed the windscreen pictured below after I bought the bike because it my helmet sound like it was in a wind tunnel. I am 6'2" and sit fairly tall and it looks like the RC would direct the wind much lower. Can anyone share their experience, thanks.

I like short screens. They take enough wind off my chest on the highway to be comfortable without creating any turbulence around my helmet. There are some air-foil attachments you can add to the tall windshield to create a flow of laminar air over your head. Laminarlip.com is one. Givi or someone else makes them as well. They work but require testing and adjustment to get the extra lift you need.

I just removed a Slip Streamer ‘Spitfire’ screen that was about the same size and profile of the one pictured in your post for the very same reason you did. I installed a Dart ‘piranna’ flyscreen which basically covers the the instrument cluster and not much more. On the freeway yesterday at 120-130 kph I was impressed with the pleasure of a generalized, clean, quiet wind as opposed to the more directed albeit turbulent and noisier wind to my head with the Spitfire screen. I’m thinking that I have joined some of the others on this forum who don’t go larger than a flyscreen and gear up for the wind accordingly - full face helmet, good gear for wind and some protection for the neck area.

That being said my choice for the Dart piranna was that it cost way less than the Road Comet out of Japan which looks similar in size to a flyscreen but with a cowl design that looks awesome. I may upgrade to one of those yet once I have confirmed my commitment to ‘embracing the wind.’

I am 6' and have a Road Comet 2 on my 14 standard. I don't have any helmet buffeting while riding. It seems to keep most of my chest out of the air stream while leaving my head out of the turbulence zone. Hope that helps.

I'm 6'2".

I had to crank my head sideways quite a bit to view your photos.

It gave me an idea. If you crank your head the same way when riding, it should reduce a lot of turbulence! ;-)

That was a "joke". Hope you took it as such.

RC1 ordered, short tinted windscreen. Probably a month out. Thanks for the feedback

Glenncal,

You will not be disappointed!! It is worth the wait.

But, you have to tell us. What color did you get? Did you get it with the stripe or no?

I love my Road Comet ! It’s such an awesome piece and def worth the wait . I haven’t experienced any wind or buffeting issues with it . It doesn’t really block much but I’m not feeling any turbulence or redirected air
