Tank Panniers - CaptainChris_imp - 04-15-2019

In my quest to maximize the amount of storage on my bike, I'm pretty much finished with the tail end of the bike. I'm now looking at the tank area and my thoughts are a tank bag and panniers. Aerostich makes a fantastic looking set of tank panniers but my concern is that they'd hang too low and touch the engine, causing melting/fire. Does anyone have any experience with the Aerostich tank panniers or tank panniers in general on the CB1100?

I have both the smaller and bigger ones but have them hanging over the passenger seat .I love them and you can adjust the length of the straps so they do not hand too low.

Houtman,

Thanks for the info. I think they'd look great over the passenger seat but I've already got H&B sidecases taking up those spots. Do the tank panniers look like they'd fit on the tank without getting their bottoms singed by the engine? I plan on measuring things out when I get home but by eyeballing it it looks like there'd be quite a bit of overhang.

Chaptain Chris , I just checked the tank panniers hanging over the tank and I think that on the 2013 and 2014 they would not fit well. As the 2017 tank is a little wider they fit a little better but still not great.
If you make the straps too short the panniers might even interfere with the steering , if too low they could get too hot or prevent cooling of the engine. I think that you might be better of with a tank bag ON TOP of the tank. The panniers are easy to throw over the seat and very easy to fix securely onto the bike but they might not be right for your application . I hope that this helps you.

I've satisfactorily used tank panniers (not Aerostitch) on my BMW. They're not great, certainly not as great as one would think they ought to be, and they do interfere with steering at low speed. I was disappointed with them. I still have them but haven't used them in probably 15 years or more! Shows how useful they are!
As Houtman says, probably won't work well on the CB.

Thanks everyone for the input. I suppose I'll stick with my tankbag and call it good.
