Problem is in the title... a careless landscaper peeled it off my tank while working in my office parking lot today. This thing seems like a cell phone screen protector: once it's off, it's off for good. is it possible to re-adhere it? has anybody had experience with this? the original adhesive material is all full of grit and crap from falling butter-side-down on the ground.

For other than clear, perhaps Scotch Super 77 spray, although a bit expensive ($12 for 4 oz).

I have removed it from glass with solvent and a shop cloth.
Not tested on paint.
What tank pad did you have?
Side knee pads or
Tank bag protector or
Jacket zipper ptotector?

knee traction pads. they go on with a simple contact adhesive that rolls off if you peel them off. they'll never come off on their own, but the guilty party actually caught it on some equipment and peeled it off by the edge. i'm already in process getting the landscaping company to order a new one for me, but i figure if i can re-attach this one i'll have a spare set for future issues.
i'm thinking if it comes off glass it should not have a problem with clearcoat automotive paint.
do you apply it to both sides like a contact cement or just one?

Jeez, that is some landscaper. Sounds fortunate not more damage was done like a paint gouge or sumthin'.

Surely the landscaper should meet any cost involved in preparing the tank for a new pad?

If the pad saved an errant gardening tool from hitting your paint and they buy you a new one, I’d call that a win. In the mean time, the adhesive just sounds like normal contact cement.

this conversation was had....i actually saw the guy do the deed, and i told his boss that he's very lucky he didn't bump it in just the wrong way and lay the bike on its side, or else we'd be having a multi-thousand dollar conversation.

Yes, they've ordered a new set of pads, since i can't be sure i'll find a way to re-attach the existing tank pad.

unfortunately, regular contact cement has not worked, nor has the scotch 77 suggested above. i applied that yesterday and rode in to work today. by the time i got to work the pad had actually slid down on the tank about 1". you can see a glue-shadow where it used to be, lol. i'm going to peel it off and clean it up again this evening, and unless there are any better suggestions, wait for the new pad set to come in the mail.

What about using the same stuff or process that’s used to glue on hand grips to handle bars? Several options are used to complete that task
