Triumph Rocket 3 - glenridgerich_imp - 12-04-2016 Lately, I've been eyeballing, and dare I say temted by the Triumph Rocket 3. Anyone have any useful info they can share? Thanks in advance. RE: Triumph Rocket 3 - the Ferret - 12-04-2016 I used to have a BSA Rocket 3, 1969. Each piston in the new Rocket 3 is larger than all 3 pistons in my Rocket 3 put together. It's a seriously large engine as you know. Very big, very heavy, very powerful. I think the inline 3 motor looks kind of industrial but hey it works. when you sit on one, the gas tank looks HUGE! I have not heard any complaints or unreliability reports floating about. I turned down an offer to ride one once. I knew a guy that owned one and he loved it. Offered to let me ride it, but it was just too big for me. RE: Triumph Rocket 3 - 4 Paws_imp - 12-04-2016 Dealer in VA has Rocket 3 priced less than a Thruxton! Large powerful bikes, looked at one as a sidecar tug until I saw one that was already done - just too massive. RE: Triumph Rocket 3 - 12cb96vfr_imp - 12-04-2016 they are massive, they have "love it or hate it" looks, and they are FUN! I rode one, they are heavy but pretty easy to maneuver considering the heft. If you're into touring they are awesome, super roomy, comfy and torque for days. You won't need to downshift to pass anyone that's for sure. The brakes aren't bad, suspension is OK, engine is incredible. It's fun to know your engine is bigger than a lot of people have in their cars! When you're sitting still and goose the throttle the entire bike rocks sideways - now that is torque! 0-60 in 3.3ish seconds and 160+lbs of torque?? Just make sure you have plenty of cash for tires haha (seriously though, lots of guys put car tires on)! Best part about torque is the power is always there - zero hesitation. You hit the gas and you move out, not waiting, no downshifting, you just GO! RE: Triumph Rocket 3 - the Ferret - 12-04-2016 There is a great youtube video of Triumph building and testing the Rocket 3. Quite hilarious. He had a car tyre on it. He was a huge lifter to boot and said he found the bike too small. He'd bored it out to 2800 ccs. If loud pipes save lives, he'll live for ever. |
