I just got my Kawasaki Zephyr 750 back on the road. It had a crack in the head where a bolt attaches it and miraculously I found a head on eBay. It had a little road rash on a couple of the fins but was in excellent condition otherwise. I couldn’t believe I found one just when I needed it. Finding parts for this bike is next to impossible.
At any rate spent the afternoon riding it and what a blast. Although the CB and it are it are both fours that’s where the similarity ends. Riding the ZR is like riding an angry wasp. It’s not comfortable unless it’s over 4000 rpms. It’s light and nimble and just leaps into curves. That being said the CB is always going to be my everyday bike but the ZR is a nice complement to it. A good bike to get some thrills on while I’m still able to.

Is the ZR750 head different than the KZ/LTD head?
A far as leaping into curves- it appears to have more rake than the CB?
What shocks are on the rear? The rear chain adjuster reminds me of my ZRX.

Unfortunately the head is different, I wish it were the same. The shocks are oem and impressive. They give a surprisingly smooth ride.

I always thought the Zephyr 1100 was cool. Didn't know much about the 750, but sounds likeit has some pretty high lift cams in it. Good job on getting it going again.

Nice looking bike though. From a design perspective I like the looks of your Zephyr more than the current Z900RS actually. It's sad that they didn't sell more of these. Glad to see that you got yours back on the road Kiowa Eagle. Enjoy!

They mainly sold in Japan and Europe from what I understand. I bought it as an impulse buy last year because the price was right and I just loved the look of it. I had no idea how rare it is in the US. It’s no show bike and I’ve put way more into it than it’s worth but it’s a fun bike to ride.

They only sold the Zephyrs for 2 years in the U.S. Back in the mid 90s I was looking for a new UJM and searched high and low for a Zephyr 750, but found none for sale. I ended up getting the CB750 instead (which was also a great choice).
I'm really surprised that the older KZ750 heads were not compatible. The Zephyr engine was nearly a carbon copy of the old KZ 738cc eight valve powerplant. Right down to the 66x54 bore and stroke.

I've only ever seen one Zephyr in person - my neighbor had one - so I don't think we got very many of them in Canada.

You guys have me thinking now..... I'm going to check part numbers when I get a chance. The head I got on ebay was off a '92 ZR750 and just happened to be there at the right time plus the price was only $250. OEM ones listed on sites like Babbitts and Partzilla were over $2000 and of course weren't available. So I doubt I would have gone a different direction even if they are the same but it could pay off in the future.
I wish I could find a center stand for it. I've collected two off of ebay so far and neither one fits. In both cases the shipping was more than the part so not worth sending back. Might see if I can get a welder to modify one.
