VTX 1800 - RLS_imp - 10-25-2018
Anybody have now or owned a VTX 1800? I have seen a nice 2006 and 2008 and I am tempted to buy one to compliment my CB. Any comments would be welcome regarding performance, ease of maintenance, comfort, etc.

I met a chap on a 2008 VTX 1800 at rest stop while riding my CB500XA a few years ago. Gorgeous motorcycle with a great sound.
I so enamored with it, I went to my Honda dealer the next day to see if they had one. They did not have the same touring model, but had me sit on the one they did have. All I had to do was lift this heavy machine off its side stand to realize this was not the motorcycle for me.

I read somewhere (I think on this very forum) that somebody who owned a VTX18 said it was the most frightening thing they ever rode. the combination of the extreme weight, monster torque, and long, badly handling wheel base just made every corner terrifying. again, not my word. the only 1800 i ever rode was a goldwing, and those are surprisingly light.

i had only a 1300 VTX for 75000km.....its a real japanes HD...smile...i liked the look of the V2 engine with the droptank over this and the sound like a HD only not that noisy..
norton you are sure that pic is a 1800???..i think this is a 1300VTX too with this typical wide "indian"-fenders
ok overthere you got an 1800 maybe too one like this...

I've ridden a VTX1800R briefly and remember it as being very heavy at lower speeds. Also remember the wind just shooting up the legs of my jeans. And it scraped the pipes and peg bar quite easily. The power was entertaining though.

Thanks for the information. I think maybe the VTX 1300 would be a better choice.

If you are considering a big v twin, try a Yamaha Roadliner out before you decide.
It has a much lower center of gravity and feels half its weight, handles much better, and sounds even better imho.
