1979 Honda CY 50 - LongRanger_imp - 02-01-2019 Posted on our local Craigslist. Japan-only model. I've never seen this model before. 50cc, 4 speed manual.
RE: 1979 Honda CY 50 - Cormanus - 02-01-2019 What a relatively enormous seat. Looks fun, though. I am wondering if Honda recycled the seat from another model BOM to keep inventory costs down? The lump looks big for 50 cc - interesting that is. My modest Honda lawnmower is 160 cc OHV, but of course without the four speed tranny. RE: 1979 Honda CY 50 - the Ferret - 02-01-2019 Ive never seen that one either. Interesting. There are a whole lot of Japanese models we never see. Sounds like a PITA toy to own. RE: 1979 Honda CY 50 - LongRanger_imp - 02-02-2019 Thanks popgun. Ferret (or anyone) -- what was the point of the little rubber toe attached to the sidestand foot on late-70's / early-80's Honda's? My '78 CB750F2 had one. I remember the owners manual warned that it would need to be replaced once it wore down -- it even had a wear indicator -- but I don't recall what its purpose was. This CY 50 has one too. RE: 1979 Honda CY 50 - the Ferret - 02-02-2019 It was to kick the side stand up when ya rode off and left the side stand down. Prior to that the sidestand dug into the geound and jacked the rear wheel off the ground at the first left hander you came to. Now the bikes wont even start with the side stand down. RE: 1979 Honda CY 50 - GoldOxide_imp - 02-02-2019 Back when Honda was doing the side stand rubber snag thing, Yamaha already supported side stand engine kill, and real working self-cancelling turn signals. Quite the battle between Honda and Yamaha for perk features which I think (?) Honda ultimately won. |
