Looking forward to another Samurider tank - tommymck - 01-25-2019

The tank, side panels and tail piece are on their way. Really surprisingly affordable (in comparison with the K10 CB tank and side covers..expensive but worth it for me). I keep the SR400 in LA. I'll be installing it as soon as it arrives. Looking forward to the end result.

Reminds me of mid 70's Yamaha paint scheme, Like a 76 XS 650. Very cool.

SR400 always looks inviting to putt around town with ease. Going to look even better.

It's a bit buzzy, and not the sort of thing you'd want to tour on, but it's a real hoot tooling around downtown Burbank on. My commute is 5 miles one-way when I'm there, and it's surprisingly fun taking it out on the coast too. And oddly, the kickstart only thing, gimmicky as it is, changes the way you feel about the bike... in a good way....

My first ride was a '76 Yamaha RD400 and it only had a kickstart. Authentic. It didn't bother me, and wouldn't today either.

Gives a modern bike a wee bit organic feel.

What is the power delivery like on the SR400? I have always wondered. I know that’s a bit of an obtuse question, but is there anything you could compare it to?

Uhm…. How do I put this delicately.... I'd compare it to a coal fired steam engine. Crank on the throttle and have faith that sometime within the next quarter mile or so things will start to move past my visor a bit more quickly. At 24 hp, there isn't much more that can be said other than it's at least fairly uniform across the band.

To be fair, I'm 6' and 185lbs, and this bike isn't meant to be a speed demon. Wind it up a bit, and accelerating to 65 on the California freeways is fine. Not sure what the top speed would be carrying my frame, but the bike doesn't beg me to find out. I use it mainly to commute on surface streets though and it's just wonderful for that.

Sounds fun! Better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.
