2021 Honda SL125 concept bike - LongRanger_imp - 03-28-2020

Okay, I'm making this up, but with the successful application of the 125cc Grom engine in the Monkey, Super Cub, and now the Hunter Cub, I'd love to see Honda reintroduce the SL70 using the same engine. I imagine a lot of dads my age would be buyers. Come on Honda, do it!

Yes, agree, it would be fun to have and ride it, but insurance premium would kill it instantly...assuming to have a good policy, at least here where I live

would you do this?

The problem is, most of us have gained 50-100 pounds since then (and a mortal fear of broken bones/coma/death).Confused

I’d (try) to do it on a reintroduced 125cc SL70, but not on a Grom. The Monkey / Super Cub / Hunter Cub are reincarnations of classic ‘60’s/70’s bikes that many of us grew up with as kids, as you know. The Grom, not so much, at least not through the rose-colored goggles I look through.

Long, I think the Van Van might be the closest current bike to what you're describing.

Yep. I like the Van Van 200 too.

When I was in college, and working at a Honda shop near Beverly Hills, there was a bunch of junior high/high school kids who had SL70s and XR75s, but nowhere to ride (except the local golf courses at night). Well, they were resourceful, and found an entrance to the LA water drainage system on one of the golf courses. Sewers.
They donned hip waders, rainsuits, rubber gloves, bandanas, and the new Bell Moto helmets with Scott goggles with tear-offs. Bikes had beefed up lighting coils and auxiliary lights, and helmets got miner's lights. They got a hold of a map of the sewer system, and would blast around all night, slipping and sliding, follow the leader, chasing dim taillights and picking up pranged bodies and bikes. No sewage per se, just miles and miles of tunnels full of algae slime and mud and runoff and who knows what.
I was too old then, but always envied them.

I had an SL100 years ago, it was fun and seemed indestructible. Yes Honda, do it.
