A choice was made, and now i'm a safer rider - misterprofessionality - 06-07-2020 So some of you have been witness to my deliberations over the past couple of weeks. This is what i ended up with: It's a 2013 Triumph Tiger 800, only 6200 miles on it. I took some of your advice concerning triumph triples, some of your advice questioning whether traction control was strictly necessary, and came up with what i think was the fairest compromise for the money. After riding 130 miles home yesterday and another 60 or so 2 up with my wife today i can say that i've made a fine choice. This bike is peppy, easily as fast as my CB, but gets far better mileage and range. The ABS has a far shorter stopping distance than my CB, and protects me from emergencies. The bike is rugged and protected, lacking only some engine guards which are easy to get. it's got plenty of wind protection and i intend to increase that a bit with some hand guards for the winter. This is a highly advantageous commuter and versatile in other ways to boot. ![]() I'm safer, more comfortable, and better equipped to handle the day, while the CB can now relax and focus on more fun roads and not traffic hell. He's become obsessed with finding dirt roads though....
RE: A choice was made, and now i'm a safer rider - misterprofessionality - 06-07-2020 this one isn't the wire wheel variety...it's much better suited to pavement. They had one of those too but it just doesn't make sense for me to gear up for dirt when the point is my daily commute. If i really really wanted to be able to take it off roading I could remove the cases and buy a set of spare spoked wheels with knobby tires on them to swap out the wheels. That would give me a fine day on the dirt. But this 800 triple is just perfect for the highway. honestly, even though it's a much smaller displacement it feels way better than my CB does at 85mph. this thing just kind of purrs at 6000rpms. the intake makes that "triple whistle" sound too like a Daytona. RE: A choice was made, and now i'm a safer rider - The A-man - 06-08-2020 Congrats Mr. P! That's a nice looking bike. Glad to hear you were able to keep the CB as well. Stay safe, stay healthy, and hopefully we can ride together again soon. A choice was made, and now i'm a safer rider - IndianRider_imp - 06-11-2020 Congratulations I purchased a new green tiger 800 in 2012 and truly enjoyed it before I moved on to a R1200RT for touring duty ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
